Syntony ignites the stage

The UAE is known for hositng spectacular music events. We have witnessed a plethora of international artists grace our shores every other weekend. Yet, there are few music events that are organised entirely by young people who sing and play the instruments without help from backing tracks.
That is what you got from Syntony, the UAE’s most powerful performance based show held on May 3 this year. Each band is student-led, taking charge of their rehearsals, arrangements and performances. Organised by Dayls International Academy for Performing Arts, the second event of its kind, students of all ages belted some of the most outstanding popular tunes to the delight of their parents and friends. The first show of this nature was called 'Calypso' and was held in 2024. This year's event was held at Zamic Events and categorised in two seperate parts (Show A and B) to ensure every student got their time on stage. From the mega tunes of Bruno Mars, Coldplay and ABBA, the hits kept coming. One of the youngest singers, Laila, who belted out the theme song from Disney's 'Moana,' nearly brought the roof down.
It was easy to see their music teacher (if you can call him that as Daylin is seen more as a friend to his students), belt out a few songs along with the singers. Many of the young performers were on stage for the first time in their lives. It was clear that each of the musicians and singers were confident to shine on stage. After the performances ended, the audience was told that it was the patience of the parent community who adhered to practice sessions that sometimes lasted as short as 15 minutes, which made it possible for an event of this scale.
While Anupama and Daniel sang, 'Just Give Me a Reason,' and received a thunderous applause, young Aryan Premkumar's rendition of Kendrick Lamar's 'Not Like Us,' a close replica of the American rapper's songwriter and record producuer's Super Bowl half time performance, got the audience on its feet. "I want everyone to understand that these kids are more focused than anyone. I always say that God has blessed me with the most talented students," said an emotional Daylin D'souza at the end of a power packed harmonius day.

Dear Abi,
Just wanted to say how beautifully you captured the spirit of Syntony in your article. Your writing was heartfelt and vivid, and it truly brought the event to life for those who were there - and even more so for those who weren’t.
I especially loved how you highlighted the student-led nature of the show and the way Daylin supports his students with such genuine passion.
Daniel and Anupama’s duet, Laila’s powerful solo, Aryan’s bold performance - each moment was so well chosen and described with such warmth. You gave every performer their moment in the spotlight, and that’s a real gift.
Looking forward to reading more of your wonderful work.
Lots of Love
Marian
Very well summarised. Truly second your thoughts. The stage was on fire even though most of the children performed on stage for the first time. Way to go
