Novotel, Deira City Centre - A home away from home

One always welcomes the weekend with a sigh of relief. The last weekend was particularly exciting for me, as I was getting to review Novotel, Deira City Centre.

Long drawn out meetings did not seem to matter anymore. Neither did the Thursday evening traffic. I had already visualised the crisp white sheets that I was about to sink myself in.

Location, location, location

With hotels, location is everything and that is a definite plus for this enterprise as well. The Novotel DCC is a hop away from Dubai's oldest and arguably most popular City Centre Mall. Another ACCOR hotel, the Ibis is also in the immediate vicinity. We arrive on Friday morning. There is a rush of people checking in from Europe, Africa, India and Oman. We wait for our room to be readied. In the lounge an elderly Sardar gentleman greets us with a smile and mentions that he is here on a short holiday. His family is keen to do a desert safari and he is a bit reluctant to step outdoors, but he does so any way.

We are taken to the 9th floor and are excited to be accommodated in the Executive Room.

It is a big thrill that our room faces the swimming pool. Intimate touches such as these make hotels win favour in most guests book. We are no exception.

While my 9 year old repeatedly inquires when we can head for a swim, we soak in to the cozy bed and begin dreaming.

A few hours later, we head for a swim and then head back to the room for some rest and relaxation.

Breakfast feasts

The next morning we step in to breakfast buffet which is bustling with people and peppered with dishes. We meet many like minded holiday makers who are eager to get their cups of coffee and head out in to the glistening Dubai sun.

There is a wide selection of fruits, oats, eggs, salads and cold cuts. Much as you would expect from any leading hotel. We make our way to a corner table and I am happy to indulge in people watching as I relish my french toast and cup of tea.

When it is time to leave I am so glad that the hotel grants us a late check out time. There's now time to talk to each other -- a real luxury for the modern family.

While my stay seemed short, I have to thank the management and staff of Novotel DCC for their attention to detail. It is definitely a location we would want to return to.
